Literacy Research

UKLA supports a broad-based view of literacy research which focuses on the development of reading, writing, speaking and listening across a range of contexts. This includes exploration of the developing nature of literacy resulting from demographic and technological change. UKLA welcomes the insights that can be gained from different theoretical perspectives and from the application of differing research paradigms. It views teachers, academics, parents and learners and all those connected with education as potential members of research communities. UKLA supports the development of collaborative action research as well as more traditional educational research. As a result of our commitment to literacy research we have developed partnerships with a number of other associations and agencies that support literacy research and funded projects. We promote literacy research through:

  • UKLA research partnerships
  • UKLA research grants
  • Publications and conferences
  • UKLA student research awards
